Walter was the sports editor for the Haverhill Gazette from 1943 up until his death. He knew a lot of the famous players of his day such as Ted Williams and countless local athletes. Often in his weekly column, Sportfolio, he wrote extensively about his childhood growing up in the Riverside section of Haverhill. He was very active with the Jimmy Fund. His life was cut short when he passed away in his sleep during a nap of a massive coronary at the age of fifty-two. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Adele Patterson '32. |
