Andy Katz was a standout for the Class of '63. He was kind, personable, intelligent, and athletic. A successful student in the college-scientific track, he was heading to college after graduation. He played on the football team and ran track. Unfortunately, he suffered a life-altering spinal injury the summer after graduation and he was paralyzed for the rest of his life. Nonetheless, had more accomplishments than most of us. He did attend college, was an inventor of apparatus for the handicapped, and served on the New Bedford Commission for the Disabled. Andy lived his adult life in the Jewish Home and sadly died at 55 years old in 2001. |
