Eric Allen Maginniss Obituary (1976 - 2025)

Graduation Year Class of 1994
Date of Birth Sep 22, 1976
Date of Passing Aug 15, 2025
About The family of Eric Allen Maginniss is sorrowful to announce his passing on the evening of Friday, August 15th at home, surrounded by his loved ones and his beloved cats. Eric died after an intense, year-long battle with a rare form of colon cancer. He requested that his family disclose this information and encouraged his friends and community to schedule screenings such as colonoscopies to hopefully help others preserve their health and treat problems early.
Eric was born in New Jersey and lived most of his childhood in Westford, Massachusetts. He attended Westford Academy until the middle of his junior year when he moved with his father to Plano, Texas, where he promptly made a large group of friends that shared his interest in Latin, music, and playing fun pick-up games of basketball. He met his wife, Dominae Petrosini, shortly before they both attended the University of Texas at Austin. Eric studied Computer Science and Astronomy and immediately began working in his field at a series of technology start-ups after graduation.
Eric was a truly world-class software developer. His coding was high-quality and high-speed. He worked as a developer and software architect for such companies as Movero, Newsstand, AlienVault, Dun & Bradstreet, and Splunk. His final job was with Stronghold Investment Management. He loved learning so much at Stronghold about an entirely new field. And his family is grateful for the kindness and support that the team at Stronghold gave to us during his illness.
Eric loved cooking, traveling, woodworking, and cats. He founded a Dungeons and Dragons group that played together for nearly 20 years. He made a mean cassoulet. He and his wife visited Maui, London, Vermont, and San Francisco, where they honeymooned. On their honeymoon, they walked to the pier to look at the sea lions every day. In later years, when Eric traveled to San Francisco on business, he would go down to the pier and hold up his phone so that Dominae could hear the sea lions back at home. That was what Eric was like. Eric and Dominae were together for more than 30 years.
Eric was a devoted son, brother, husband, and friend. He was pre-deceased by his grandparents Frank and Miriam, and his brother Kelly. He is survived by his mother Cynthia and her wife Cindy Abaz; his father Christopher, and Chris’s wife Susan of 29 years who was Eric’s mom for those years as well; his sister Anna and her husband John, and their children James and Laura; and his wife Dominae Petrosini and her parents William and Jeannie. He will be dearly missed by his family cats: Athena, Hercule, Miss Marple, and Hastings.
In lieu of flowers, Eric and his family have named the following charities as suggestions for donations: The Shriners Children’s Hospital and the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital: Koala Conservation Australia.
Rest in peace, Eric Allen Maginniss. You were deeply loved.
