About | Richard William Martens died April 25, 2015, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was born on November 23, 1953, in Battle Creek, Michigan to Gordon and Virginia Martens. Rick grew up in Bellevue, Michigan graduating from Bellevue High School in 1972. As a teen, Rick began serving as a volunteer with the newly formed Bellevue Rescue Squad and continued through his years at Kellogg Community College. As an organ donor, Rick continued to give to others at the end of his life. Rick worked as a CAD designer, first with Ghafari Associates working in Fisher Body, Ford, and Chrysler plants in Michigan and Ohio, and later joined Panel-Fab in Cincinnati as their first CAD designer. He particularly enjoyed his work at the small, independent company. Rick enjoyed fishing, music, woodworking, MSU sports, and Tiger baseball. Rick is survived by his wife of 38 years, Laurie Hagan, and their daughter Monica. He is also survived by his mother Virginia Martens of Mason, Michigan, sisters Jan Walsworth of Lansing, Michigan, and Deb Martens (Jim Bennett), of Mason, Michigan, three nieces, two nephews, an aunt, Beverly Martens, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Gordon. Rick will be remembered in a memorial service at the Bellevue United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 16, at 3:00 p.m. After the service friends are invited to join Rick’s family at the Riverside Café in Bellevue for dessert and coffee. Private interment will take place at a later date at Riverside Cemetery in Bellevue. Contributions may be made in Rick’s memory to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (www.nationalmsociety.com), in honor of his daughter Monica. |
