Funeral services for Arnold V. Loper, 51, who died Feb. 2 at the Little Traverse Division of Northern Michigan Hospitals, Inc., were held Friday at St. Mary's Church. The Rev. Roger Ames of Christ Episcopal Church officiated. Interment was in Brookside Cemetery. Born in Flint Oct. 16, 1930, Mr. Loper came to Charlevoix at the age of five years. He graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1949. In 1951 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served four years. Following his discharge, he returned to Charlevoix and, in September 1955, was employed as a lineman by Michigan Bell Telephone Co. He later became an installer and repairman. He was on sick leave from the company at the time of his death. On Jan. 15, 1955, he had married the former Jean A. Keeling at Charleston, W. Va. They always made their home here. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Great Lakes Chapter No. 90, Telephone Pioneers of America, Leslie T. Shapton Post No. 226, American Legion, Charlevoix Sports Boosters, Charlevoix Band Boosters, Charlevoix Little League and Senior League. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Gregory and Michael and one daughter, Carolyn, all at home. The family suggests memorials to the Arnie Loper Memorial Scholarship Fund which has been established in his memory.The Winchester Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. |
