About | Barbara K. Lamoreaux, 55, of Marquette, died Friday afternoon, May 8, 2015 at U.P. Health System-Marquette after suffering a massive stroke. Her parents, sisters, hockey son, Michael, and dear friend Cindy were by her side. Barb grew up in Northern Michigan where she graduated from Charlevoix Public Schools in 1978. She was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, being outside, and making the annual spring break trek with good friends and family to the Alabama beach. Traveling was one of her greatest passions, although she was most content spending weekends in Grand Marais. But the one activity Barb enjoyed most and took the most pride in, was being a hockey mom to numerous Electrician players, many who still visit, call and even have children who considered her like a grandmother. Her love and dedication to her hockey boys went above and beyond the expectation of housing parents. From fresh baked cookies, to cold Gatorade, riding the rowdy team bus or a hand to hold in the emergency room, Barb was there for them. Marquette became Barb's home when she began attending Northern Michigan University. She then trained at Marquette General Hospital where she met the Weiland/Nebel families who have remained her dear friends from that time forward. Earning a certificate in Radiography she accepted an X-Ray technician position in Walla Walla, Washington. After a few years she returned to Michigan and began working at Marquette General Hospital where she acquired her "hospital" family whom she cared for deeply. Barb is survived by her parents, John and Lynn Lamoreaux of Charlevoix; three sisters, Karen (Peter) Brown of Walker, Pamela (Mark) Gregory of Petoskey, Cindi (Jeff) Zeismer of Elk Rapids, niece/goddaughter, Olivia Brown and niece, Morgan Brown; nephews, Grant and Chase Gregory and Brenton and Cameron Evans, as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. A celebration of Barb's life will take place on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home with the Rev. Leon Jarvis presiding. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service in the funeral home at 1 p.m. An additional celebration of Barb's life and burial will take place at a later date near her childhood home in Lower Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a future scholarship fund in Barb's name. Barb's obituary can also be viewed at canalefuneral.com where relatives and friends may leave a note of remembrance.
