| About | Beatrice E. Straw, 76, of Charlevoix, died May 27, 1987, at Grandvue Medical Care Facility, East Jordan. Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 30, at the Winchester Funeral Home, Charlevoix. The Rev. David W. Yingling of the United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery, Charlevoix. Miss Straw was born Jan. 1, 1911, in Charlevoix, the daughter of William K. and Genevieve (Denkema) Straw. Miss Straw graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1928 and then attended Charlevoix County Normal. She taught at rural schools in the area and in 1939 she earned her teaching degree at Central Michigan College. She taught at the Loeb School in Charlevoix for four years , and then at an elementary school in Lansing, retiring in 1973. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Thorburn-Magler Circle. She was also a member of the Charlevoix Area Historical Society. Survivors include: one brother, Lawrence W. Straw, of Charlevoix. The family suggests memorials to the United Methodist Church, Charlevoix. Envelopes for that purpose are available at the Winchester Funeral Home where friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday and meet the family from 7-9 p.m. Friday. |
