About Charlevoix Sgt. Dies Of Wounds
Sgt. Bernard J. Foster, 30, radio operator and waist gunner on a Flying Fortress in Italy, died of wounds on August 25, according to a telegram received Monday afternoon by his parents, Post- master and Mrs. Joseph M. Fosser of Charlevoix. He had completed 18 bombing missions and was believed to have been injured on his 19th mission.
Sgt. Foster entered the service in June, 1941, trained at Ft. War- ren, Wyoming; Lowry Field, Celo.; Fresno, Calif.; army flexible gunnery school at Las Vegas, Nev., and radio school at Sioux City, S. D. He went overseas in March of this year.
Born in Charlevoix, Sgt. Foster graduated from high school there and attended Western State Teachers College at Kalamazoo, Mich.
Surviving besides his parents are his wife, the former Rose O'Donnell, and small son, Michael Joseph; four brothers, Lt. William J., with the marines in the Pacific war zone; Lt. John T., of the naval air force, stationed at Lake City, Fla.; Maurice, Y1/c, in the Canal Zone with the navy; and Robert of Kalamazoo; the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Foster, Petoskey.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary's Church in Charlevoix at 9:00 o'clock next Tuesday morning, Sept. 12.
