About | Bernie Ward, Jr., 80, of Charlevoix, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at his home in Charlevoix surrounded by his loved ones. He was born May 16, 1927, in Charlevoix, to Bernie and Maeoma (Hall) Ward, Sr. Bernie graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1946. He worked for the City of Charlevoix Street Department and Wastewater Treatment Plant. Bernie was a Charter Fishing Captain, and owned and operated Ward Brother's Boats in Charlevoix. For over fifty years, he held a United States Coast Guard 100 Ton Master's License. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Charlevoix, and the Charlevoix Rod & Gun Club. On June 8,1949, Bernie married Fran Potter at the Barnard United Methodist Church. Fran survives him, as do his sons, Bernie (Sandy) Ward III, and Donald L. (Carol) Ward all of Charlevoix; grandchildren, Natalie, Russell, Brittany, Christie, Brian, Kelley and Heather; brother William Ward of Charlevoix; sister, Joan Goldberg of California. Visitation was held Sunday, March 9, at the First Baptist Church in Charlevoix. The funeral was held Monday, March 10 at the Church with the Reverend James Mort officiating. Burial will take place in Brookside Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church in Charlevoix. The Winchester Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. |
