About | BEVERLY SOUTHERN Obituary Beverly H. Southern, 79, of Charlevoix, Mich., and Hinckley, Ill., died Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at her home in Hinckley. Beverly was born in Charlevoix on Aug. 3, 1931, the daughter of Frederick J. and Helen F. (Martin) Looze. She graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1948, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology, and a master's degree in education from Central Michigan University. Beverly worked in education her entire life, and taught at the North School in Sycamore, Ill., and the Hinckley School in Hinckley. She also worked in school administration. Beverly was a member of the First Congregational Church in Charlevoix. She was a Master Gardener. For the past five years, Beverly has spent her winters in Hinckley. Beverly is survived by her children, William E. Southern, Jr. and his wife Barbara Fant of Wickenburg, Ariz., Linda H. Southern Hagen and her husband Michael Hagen of Ringgold, Ga., and Mark D. Southern and his wife Patricia Southern of Big Rock; grandchildren, Amanda Fant, Mikayla Southern, Ashley and Adam Hagen, and Marissa and Emily Southern; and great-grandchildren Dyllon and Chandra Ruport. The funeral is at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 21, at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix, where friends may visit with the family beginning at 12:30 p.m. The Rev. Neil Wilson of the First Congregational Church in Charlevoix will officiate. Burial will take place in Brookside Cemetery in Charlevoix. Memorial contributions may be made to the Charlevoix Historical Society for Lighthouse Restoration, 103 State Street, Charlevoix, MI 49720.
