| About | Former resident and Charlevoix High alum Darcy Elaine McCandless, 64, passed away August 5, 2021, after a brief battle with cancer. She was born October 5, 1956, to parents A. Dale and Lois I. (Brewer) McCandless in Ellwood City, PA. Having moved to Charlevoix at age 10, she graduated Charlevoix High School in 1974. She attended Ferris State University and became a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, graduating in 1978 with degrees in business and real estate. She soon found her real passion and began a long career in the travel industry, having been able to travel all over the world for work and leisure. She enjoyed many hobbies, especially photography. Although never married or having children of her own, she treated her two nephews and two great-nephews like her own. She is survived by her brother, Curt McCandless (significant other Georgia Callis), of Novi, MI; nephews Leland (Kristina) McCandless, of Livonia, MI and Cole McCandless, of Ann Arbor, MI; and great nephews Callen and Oliver, also of Livonia, MI. Her parents, grandparents, an aunt and an uncle all preceded her in passing. A private family memorial took place last fall. A celebration of life is planned for Thursday, July 21, 2022, at Vue Wine Bar in downtown Charlevoix anytime between 1:00 P.M. and 4 P.M.
