About | Don Ray Gill age 90 of Sturgis, Michigan passed away early Wednesday morning, April 20, 2022 at Skaggs Assisted Living in Burr Oak, Michigan. He was born January 22, 1932 in Charlevoix, Michigan son of the late Alfred and Henrietta (Swartz) Gill. Don resided in Sturgis since 1991. His early life was lived in Charlevoix where he was a graduate of Charlevoix High School with the class of 1950 and he was also a graduate of Kendall School of Design. On October 2, 1971 he married Sharon Lorraine Perrin at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis. Don was a highly skilled and talented furniture designer and retired from the Futorian Furniture Company following many years of dedicated employment. He was a member of the Sturgis Evangelical Church. Don was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War earning the rank of PFC and he was a member of the Charlevoix American Legion Post #226. He enjoyed repairing furniture and woodworking but what he truly loved was time spent with family. He is survived by his wife: Sharon; two daughters: Cindy Lang of Ludington and Joan Franks of Sturgis; four sons: Jerry (Rocky) Gill of Indian River, Christopher Perrin of Sturgis, Patrick Gill of Schererville, Indiana and Matthew Gill of Ludington; 19 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Dorothy Duff, Joann Snyder and Grace Gill and five brothers: Alfred, Glenn, Ben, Albert and Robert Gill. The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM – 11:00 A.M., Saturday, April 30th at the Sturgis Evangelical Church where a memorial service celebrating and honoring the life of Don Ray Gill will immediately follow the visitation at 11:00 A.M. The Rev. Troy Diersing will officiate. Full military honors will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Private burial has taken place at the Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak. The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with the arrangements.
