About | Donald B. Meggison, 75, of Charlevoix, died Thursday, July 15, 1999, at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. Funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday, July 19, at Charlevoix United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dale P. Ostema will officiate. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Charlevoix. Don was born Sept. 29, 1923, in Charlevoix, son of Clarence B. and Sadie (Bedell) Meggison. He graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1941 and served in the U.S. Army during World War Il in the Pacific Theater. He married the former Helen Kaske in Charlevoix on Oct. 12, 1946. Don was an automotive mechanic by trade. He also operated Meggison's Wrecker Service and Snow- plowing. "Meg" was known for his community service. He was an active member of the Charlevoix Fire Department for 40 years, charter member and past president of Charlevoix Lions Club, past commander of American Legion, Leslie T. Shapton Post No. 226, served on the board of directors of the Northwest Human Services Agency, was a First Ward councilman, and served on City of Charlevoix Planning Commission and Charlevoix County Commissioners. He was a member of Charlevoix United Methodist Church, V.F.W. Post No. 1153, Charlevoix Rod and Gun Club, and Charlevoix Hunting Club. Don is survived by his wife, Helen; sons, Jerry B. and wife, Babs, Thomas G. and wife, Kathy Meggison-Loveland; Bruce and wife, Susan; daughter, Barb Swan- son and husband, Kevin, all of Charlevoix; grandchildren, Daniel B. Meggison, Krista M. Meggison, Kraig E. Swanson, Donovan L. Swanson, Grant E. Meggison, Lee. E. Meggison, Melanie Buys, and Mandi Meggison; great-grandchildren, Zachary Meggison and Kasi Buys; sisters, Frances Wilson and husband, Ken, Faye Alger and husband, Jim, all of Charlevoix, and Beth DeWildt and husband, Jack, of Wyoming, Mich. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sun- day, July 18, at Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix. The family has asked in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Charlevoix United Methodist Church, or to Charlevoix Area Hospital. |
