About | Gerald "Jerry" Sladek Gerald Paul Sladek, “Jerry” age 62, of Charlevoix, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2023 doing what he loved most. He was born on March 25, 1961, in Charlevoix, Michigan. Jerry was the son of John and Beverly (Cunningham) Sladek. Jerry graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1980, and went on to attend Port Huron Community College. After a short time, he became employed with GSI, an oil exploration company, which allowed him the opportunity to travel all across the United States. He returned home to Charlevoix in 1985, and worked for 18 years as a land surveyor for Ferguson Surveying. Since that time, he has worked as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver for Manthei Construction. Jerry was an avid outdoorsman; whether it was hunting deer, fishing in Lake Michigan, or snowmobiling in the winter, he loved spending time in God’s creation. He also enjoyed spending time on Beaver Island with friends and family. Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa Sladek; his daughter, Nicole Sladek LeBaron, her husband TJ and grandson Bryson; of Muskegon, MI, His sons Scott and Dylan Sladek of Bozeman, MT; his four siblings, Barbara and husband Paul Mossner of Manchester, IA, James Sladek of Butte, MT, Kathleen Sladek of Mancelona, MI, Joseph and wife Laural Sladek of Charlevoix; several nieces and nephews, his aunts Janice Farmer and Sharon Woodbury of Charlevoix, MI, his in-laws Gary and Beverly Cantwell of Beaver Island, MI along with siblings, spouses, and nephews of Lisa’s family. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister-in-law, Rosalie Sladek. A mass will take place at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 17th, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, Charlevoix Fire Department (Search and Rescue), and Parkinson’s Foundation.
