About | Hal was born January 27, 1949 in Petoskey, MI and died at home under Hospice care March 15, 2023 after a 7 month battle with esophageal cancer. Hal, aka, Bunker was born on a typical Charlevoix, MI winter day, rumor has it if it hadn't been for Don Meggison and his beast of a truck, he'd still be in that snowbank. Hal graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1967. He enlisted in the US Air Force serving as an Air Traffic Controller from 1973 - 1977, at which time he received an award from then president Gerald Ford. He also completed his business degree from Michigan State University. Hal became a Class A diesel mechanic working for PeterBilt in Grand Rapids. After driving one of their giant tow trucks, he decided "trucking" was the life for him and remained a trucker until his retirement in 2018. He married Karen McDonald May 7 1983 and welcomed their son, Chad July 18, 1985 - both survive him and live in Clarkdale, AZ. He kept busy with part time jobs in the Verde Valley and by designing and making interesting yard art from wood and metal. He also loved his dogs and surprised Karen with a puppy named Kimchi on Jan 31, 2022 Hal is survived by his sister Julie Scheels (Rolland) of Lansing/Atlanta, MI.; nephew Todd Holtzman, niece Tobi Curtis (Russell).; great-nieces, Lily & Chloe Curtis, AngelaLee Holtzman, and great-nephew A.J.
