About | HUBERT MCCANN DIES UNEXPECTEDLY SATURDAY MORNING Hubert E. McCann, 33, former Charlevoix resident, died unexpectedly at 9 o'clock Saturday, following a heart attack. Mr. McCann was born in Charlevoix on November 1, 1908. He received his education in the Charlevoix schools and graduated from the Charlevoix High School in 1927. During the summer months from 1922 through 1927 he was employed at the Charlevoix Inn and after spending the following year at the Southern Pines Inn, Southern Pines, N. C., he became associated with the Sinton Hotel in Cincinnati, O., In 1932 he was appointed assistant manager and in 1937 was named manager. He held this position until December, 1941, when he left Cincinnati to accept a similar position at the Berry Hotel in Athens Country Clubs, was a member of the Kiwanis and was a member of and held offices in several hotel associations. On December 29, 1937, he married Mrs. Harriett Schmidt, in Cincinnati. Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Claire Jewell; his mother, Mrs. James C. McCann, of Charlevoix; five sisters, Mrs. William J. Coveyou, of Petoskey, Mrs. Monroe Block, of New York City, the Misses Anne and Mary McCann, of Detroit, and Mrs. Herbert Campbell, of Charlevoix; one brother, Dan. J. McCann, who joined the U. S. Navy in Detroit on August 29. The body will be brought here Tuesday morning from Athens, O. Funeral services will be held at the St. Mary's church at 9 o'- clock. Wednesday morning. Rev. John W. Collins will say the Requiem Mass and perform the Absolution. Interment will be at the Catholic cemetery here. |
