About | A memorial mass for Irving L. Hallett, 87, former Charlevoix resident, will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, in Birmingham. Interment of his ashes will be in Charlevoix at a later date. Mr. Hallett died Sept. 19, 1985, at Birmingham, where he had lived for many years. He was born in 1897 in Chicago and at the age of 1, he came to Charlevoix with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph J Hallett, to join his grandfather, Luke Hallett, who had settled here. For 50 years, the Hallets engaged in the hotel business and through the years owned and operated the Hallett House on Belvedere Avenue and the Hallett Hotel located on the present site of the Oleson complex. Mr. Hallett was a graduate of Charlevoix High School and was a student at the University of Notre Dame when he left his studies to enlist in the U.S. Navy during World War I. He was married to the former Lela Genett and the couple moved to Southern Michigan in the 1940s and made their home in Birmingham. Mrs. Hallett preceded him in death. Mr. Hallett is survived by two sons, Irving L. (Bud) Hallett Jr. of New Jersey and Richard L. Hallett of Birmingham; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. |
