Age 84, of Charlevoix, died Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at Burcham Hills Retirement Center in East Lansing. The funeral service will be at 2:00pm, Friday, August 6, at the First Congregational Church in Charlevoix. The Reverend Mary Willis will officiate. Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery, Charlevoix. Jim was born November 10, 1919, in Charlevoix, the son of Ernest and Christine (Petersen) Hiller. He graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1937, and attended Davenport Business College in Grand Rapids. On July 10, 1942, he married Mildred Withers in Charlevoix. She preceded him in death on June 11, 1995. During WWII, Jim served with the U.S. Army Air Corp in the Philippines. He was a former mayor of Charlevoix, and served on the Board of Directors of the Charlevoix County State Bank. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Charlevoix, Charlevoix Lodge F & AM #282, and the Northwest Shrine Club. He owned and operated Charlevoix Lumber Company, and worked as a building contractor. Survivors include daughters; Pam (Don) Smith of Charlevoix, Rebecca Pease of Lansing, and Roberta (Don) Mann of Dimondale; son, Tim (Karla) Hiller of Haslett; eight grandchildren, one great-grandson, brother-in-law Ray Champion. Jim was preceded in death by his sister Anne (Hiller) Champion, and brothers, Lee Hiller and Don Hiller. Visitation will be 7-9 pm, Thursday, at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix. Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Congregational Church of Charlevoix, Heartland Hospice of Mason, or Burcham Hills Retirement Center in East Lansing.
