Mr. J. Howard North, 86, of 11677 Country Club Road, Waynesboro, PA entered into eternal rest at 9:15 P.M. Sunday, December 25, 2011 in Quincy Village, Quincy, PA following a short illness. He was born on December 29, 1924 in Bay City, Michigan; he was the son of the late Oscar P. and Esther I. (Kuhlberg) North. He lived his early life in Charlevoix, MI. Mr. North graduated from Charlevoix Senior High School with the class of 1942. He later received his Bachelor of Science degree in education from Michigan State University. Mr. North served in the United States Army during World War II, serving in the infantry in the European Theater. He and his late wife, Mrs. Ruth C. (Edwards) North were married on June 14, 1946 in Charlevoix. Mrs. North died in October 1996. He later married Mrs. Pauline (Hafner) "Polly" Brindle North on July 3, 1998. She died in August of 2008. Mr. North taught high school American History in Ionia, Michigan for 30 years. He retired in 1981. He is survived by one son, J. Robert North wife Diane of Waynesboro, three step-children, Katie Green and husband James; Margaret Burklow and husband Dale and Christine Brindle, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, one step-great-grandson, one brother, Donald North of Tavares, Florida and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and two wives, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy R. North who died in 1998 and one sister, Eleanor North. Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 28, 2011 in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington Street, Greencastle, PA, with the Antietam Congregation of the German Baptist Church ministers officiating. Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday evening in the funeral home. Mr. North will then be transported to Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich Street, Ionia, Michigan for services Friday, December 30, 2001 at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. David Bogda officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Brookside Cemetery in Charlevoix, Michigan. The family requests the omission of flowers. |
