About | Kathleen Lewis was born in Charlevoix on April 20, 1948 to Arthur and Martina (Tookolo) Lewis. After graduating from Charlevoix High School, she attended San Jose Community College in San Jose California. Later, she also attended University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and North Central Michigan College in Petoskey. She held many jobs throughout her years. Many people have fond memories of her while working at Hoskins Wire Factory in Charlevoix. She dedicated several years working as a CNA and particularly enjoyed her time as a hospice aide. She worked with Char/EmISD as the Indian Education Home/School Coordinator. She also served as Secretary for Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa during council's time in Washington securing federal reaffirmation for the community. She enjoyed her time serving the Native American community and was proud of her Ottawa, Chippewa and Choctaw ancestry. She retired from Bay Street Orthopedics where she worked as a filekeeper. She walked on peacefully in her home on April 5. She was attended by her dog, Chloe, her cat, Ruthie, and her son, Michael. She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Lewis, and her mother, Martina Starr née Tookolo. She is survived by her son, Michael McCann. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 9, from 5-7 PM, at the Charlevoix Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 10, at noon, at St Mary Catholic Church in Charlevoix. A visitation will be held from 11 AM until the time of mass. Father Peter Wigton will be officiating. A luncheon will follow mass at the church. Arrangements are in the care of the Charlevoix Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
