| About | Larry E. Warner, age 82, passed away unexpectedly in an auto accident on November 24, 2025. Born on April 26, 1943, in Charlevoix, Michigan, to Jasper and Mary (Smith) Warner, Larry spent his early years on a cherished family farm along Barnard Road. He graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1961, and soon after he proudly enlisted in the US Army on the buddy program with his best friend, Ron Fratrick. Larry’s personal life was filled with love and commitment. On December 28, 1962, he married Lorraine Heise at Charlevoix United Methodist Church. Their partnership blossomed into nearly 63 years of shared life, laughter, and adventure. Larry’s dedication to his community shone through his service on the Charlevoix School Board—a pivotal experience that inspired him to further his education at NCMC in Petoskey. During this period, he also worked at Giant Supermarket, where he forged many lifelong friendships. In 1975, Larry and his family relocated to Mount Pleasant, Michigan, where his academic journey continued as he earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in clinical psychology from Central Michigan University. His professional career was marked by compassion and leadership, initially working in Alma before returning north to assume a management role at Woodland Counseling, later integrated with Northern Michigan Hospital. His final professional endeavor was at Harbor Hall, where he led a weekly session at the Emmet County Jail—touching lives with his hopeful message of never giving up. Larry’s generous spirit and commitment to others were recognized in 2004 when he was honored with the Red Cross Good Samaritan Award. He always described himself as a rich man, blessed with an abundance of family and dear friends. He is lovingly survived by his wife, Lorraine Warner; daughter, Michelle Warner, and her children Lauren (Brett) Brinkel, Trevor (Meghan) Olson; son, Kent (Jill) Warner, and his children Whitney (Trent) McCullough, Jackson Warner; and son, Matthew Warner (Sarah Chance) and his children Jasper and Lily Warner. His memory is also cherished by his sisters, Marian (Bill) Pasche, Judy Arnold; his brother, James (Gail) Warner; as well as many dear nieces, nephews and cousins. He also considered Jason Horniman, Ken Turk and Rick Gillis as his other sons. A celebration of Larry’s life will be held on December 13th at Stone’s Funeral Home, with visitation at 1:00PM and a celebration service at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to causes close to Larry’s heart: Barnard United Methodist Church or Charlevoix Alano Club (charlevoixalano.org). Larry’s loving spirit, his dedication to service, and his unwavering hope continue to inspire all who knew him. His legacy of warmth, generosity, and kindness will forever remain in our hearts. |
