Lewis E. Brown of Petoskey, 73, died May 6, 1995, at his home.
Funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Petoskey. The Rev. Fr. Wilber Hegener of St. Francis will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Petoskey.
He was born Aug. 26, 1921, in Charlevoix, the son of Benjamin and Ellen (Ecklund) Brown. He grew up in Charlevoix and attended school at Charlevoix. He graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1939. He attended Ferris Institute in Big Rapids.
On Dec. 29, 1942, he married Jerolene Fochtman in Petoskey where the couple have made their home.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater.
He owned and operated Brown Motors in Petoskey, which had been a family business since 1898. He retired in 1986 at which time his two sons, Steve and Eric, bought the business and today is still called Brown Motors. He served as athletic director at St. Francis School for 25 years and also volunteered as bas- ketball coach for several years.
He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, a member of Council No. 193 Knights of Columbus of Petoskey, Petoskey- Bay View Country Club, former member of the Petoskey Lions Club, B.P.O.E. No. 629 of Petoskey. He served as a director on the Michigan Automobile Dealers Association and served as a director on the Dodge Dealers Advisory Council.
Survivors include his wife, Jero- lene; two sons, Steve and his wife Holly, of Petoskey, and Eric and his wife Meredith, of Petoskey; five daughters, Sister Mary Noel Brown of Manitowoc, Wis., Barbara Mal- pass and her husband, Fred, of East Jordan; Beth Johnson of Sacramen- to, Calif.; Margaret Loodeen of Mid- land and Teresa Brown of LaGrange Park, Ill., 12 grandchildren and a sis- ter, Edna Danser of Petoskey. He was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd; and two sisters, Laura and Marguerite.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Francis Endowment Fund or charity of choice. Envelopes will be available at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey where friends may call 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today. A rosary will be recited at 8
p.m.
