About | Margaret F. Erber, 88, of Charlevoix, died June 12, 1994, at home. There will be no funeral. Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, at the Winchester Funeral Home, Charlevoix. Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery, Charlevoix. She was born Jan. 5, 1906, in Charlevoix, the daughter of Arthur L. and Pearl (Greenaway) Fitch. She graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1924. She lived in Charlevoix all but six years of her life. She spent two years attending Michigan State College in East Lansing, two years at Western State Normal in Kalamazoo where she graduated in 1928, and one year teaching in Grand Rapids. She then moved back to Charlevoix where she taught for five years before retiring to marry Karl John Erber on June 15, 1933. He was the sixth son of Julius and Regina Erber of Boyne City. Mr. Erber pre ceded her in death on July 7, 1988. Mrs. Erber was active in church, school and civic affairs in Charlevoix. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Charlevoix. She was a born member of the Shake- speare Study Club, and a charter member of the Charlevoix Garden Club. She also served on the committee which formed the Venetian Festival, and was a member of the group that established the art fair in Charlevoix. Survivors include two sons, John A. "Jack" Erber and his wife, Joyce, of Beaver Island, and Thomas Karl Erber and his wife, Sue, of Charlevoix; one daughter, Lenore Thornton, of New York, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Erber was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Elizabeth "Kay" Fitch, in 1977. |
