About | Margaret Goepfrich of Carp Lake owned and managed the former Thrifty Foods of Boyne City (now Glen’s Market) with her husband for many years. Mrs. Goepfrich died at the age of 91, Saturday, January 14, 2006, at Mackinac Straits Hospital and Long Term Care Facility of St. Ignace, where she had been a patient for a short time. She was born in Charlevoix March 15, 1914, to William and Catherine Haggerty Smith. She was graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1932. She married Fitch Tooley, and he preceded her in death February 11, 1969, in Boyne City. She married Edmund Goepfrich in 1974, and they divided their time between Boyne City and Englewood, Florida. Mr. Goepfrich died April 13, 1986. After his death, Mrs. Goepfrich made her home with her daughter and son-in-law in Mackinaw City and Carp Lake. Mrs. Goepfrich was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Mackinaw City. She is survived by her daughter and her family, Barbara and Jon Beck of Carp Lake; grandchildren Michael and Tracey Beck of Midland, Carrie and Tom Markham of Cheboygan, and Julie Beck of Big Rapids, and three great-grandchildren, Emily and Elizabeth Markham, and Ella Beck. She was preceded in death by four siblings, John Smith, Monica Bingham, Catherine Mayne, and Mary Smith. Visitation and prayer services were at St. Anthony’s Church of Mackinaw City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony’s Wednesday, January 18, at 11 a.m. Celebrant will be Father Paul Megee, assisted by Sister Chris Herald. Burial will be in April, at Maple Lawn cemetery in Boyne City. Memorial donations can be made to St. Anthony’s Parish Life Center in Mackinaw City. Donation envelopes are available at Dodson Funeral Home in St. Ignace. |
