Milford A. Saunders, 85, formerly of 112 Fairway Drive, Battle Creek, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1992, at his home in Columbia, S.C., after a brief illness.
Mr. Milford was born Sept. 22, 1907 in Charlevoix, to Jerimiah and Louise (Johnsen) Saunders. He was a 1925 graduate of Charlevoix High- School and graduated from Detroit Institute of Technology in 1937, receiving a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, participating in the Normandy invasion and receiving a commendation ribbon with a Battle Star. He was discharged as a lieutenant in 1945.
He began his career as a zone manager for the former Packard Motor Co. in 1945. He worked at various locations as a regional manager for the former American Motors Co. and later became the company’s national operations manager for dealer investments, retiring in 1971. He and his wife moved to South Carolina in June, 1991.
He was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and the church’s financial secretary. He also was a former member of the church Ecclesians Class, which he co-founded. He was a member of the senior citizen group Good Shepherds in South Carolina; Sigma Kappa Phi fraternity and Omega Alpha Pi honorary fraternity; Birmingham Masonic Lodge No. 44; King Cyrus Chapter No. 133 R&AM of Detroit, and Battle Creek Commandry No. 33 Knights Templar.
He married Rocena Wilson on June 15, 1935. She died Nov. 4, 1991. Surviving are a son, Gerald W. Saunders of Columbia, S.C.; and three grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by brothers, Mark Saunders and Oakley Saunders.
Visitation: 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. e Tuesday at Farley-Estes Funeral Home. Services: 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, the Rev. Joseph Bistayi officiating.

Burial: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sunset Hills Cemetery, Flint.
Memorials: Chapel Hill United Methodist Church or Masonic Home in Alma.
