Graduation Year Class of 1959
Date of Birth Nov 27, 1940
Date of Passing Nov 06, 2024
About Rodney Gale Ostrum, 83, passed away on November 6, 2024, in Traverse City, MI. Born on November 27, 1940 in Charlevoix, MI, Rodney was a resident of Indian River, MI while raising his children. He and his beloved wife, Peg, then returned to Charlevoix in 2004. Rodney was a cherished member of both communities.

Rodney's career spanned several decades at the Charmin Plant, which later became Procter & Gamble. He continued his work at Procter & Gamble as a contractor after the plant closed in Cheboygan. As a contractor, he spent time in Indiana, North Carolina, California, Texas, and New Jersey, bringing his love for exploration to each location alongside Peggy. He also worked at Howe Marine for a number of years and owned Sunset Shores resort on East Mullet Lake where he and Peg rented cottages and boats to vacationers.

A sports enthusiast from a young age, Rodney was a standout athlete at Charlevoix High School, graduating in 1959. He was a key player on the legendary 1958 football team, celebrated for its undefeated and unscored upon season. Rodney's passion for sports continued into adulthood with softball, golf, and bowling. His love for water led him to enjoy boating and fishing, and he was also an exceptional cook, known especially for his baked beans, tacos, spaghetti, fudge, and cream puffs.

Rodney's life was marked by his active, fun-loving, and generous spirit. He was a man who deeply valued his family and friends, evident in the rich, loving relationships he nurtured throughout his life.

He is survived by his daughters, Shannon Ostrum-King (Ron), Siiri Ostrum-Pfalzer (Kenn), and Tara Ostrum-Berrou (Gildas); grandchildren Madison, Kieran, MacKinnon, Braeden, Lacey, Kilian, and Solenn; and his brother, Norm Ostrum. His sweet dog, Maple, also remains a loving part of his family. Rodney was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (Peggy Eddy) Ostrum; his parents, Eldred and Eva Ostrum (née Krchak); and his siblings, Frank Ostrum, Bob Ostrum, and Gloria Mackersie.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Indian River Golf Club, 3301 Chippewa Beach Road on November 27 from 12:00 to 2:00, honoring what would have been his 84th birthday. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association and the Lupus Research Alliance, reflecting Rodney's hope for a brighter future for his granddaughters and others affected by these conditions. Rodney's life and legacy will be remembered fondly by all who knew him, as a beacon of joy and generosity in his community.
