About | Ronald G. “Bud” Balch passed away on Aug. 24, 2014. He was born in Charlevoix on Sept. 10, 1940, to Edith (O’Neil) and Kenneth Balch. On April 15, 1961, Bud married Deanne (Bartlett) Balch, also of Charlevoix. They continued to make their home there throughout their 53 years of married life. Bud was a 1960 graduate of Charlevoix High School and a graduate of the Toledo School of Meatcutting. He was employed by Oleson’s Food Store of Charlevoix as the meat department manager for 35 years, retiring in 2002. Bud loved to fish, hunt and play golf. He also enjoyed camping and traveling, particularly to warmer climates in winter months. An avid sports fan, Bud was especially proud of being a member of the undefeated, unscored upon Charlevoix High School football team of 1958. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Bambi (Butch) Potter and Stephanie Balch; his brothers, Ken and Garry Balch; nephews, Randy and Jeff Balch; and niece, Kendall Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug, 29, at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix. The family will be present to meet with friends and relatives for an hour prior to the service. The family suggests contributions in Bud’s honor be made to the Charlevoix County Humane Society.
