About | Shirley Mae (Krulik) Elzinga, age 88 of Charlevoix passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2021 in Petoskey, after a brief illness. Shirley was born on November 17, 1932 in Charlevoix to Kenneth and Nellie Mae (Ward) Kruik and she lived all of her life in Charlevoix. She was married on September 26, 1952 to Harrison A. Elzinga. Shirley was preceded in death by her sisters Wilma (Krulik) Stewart and Joyce (Krulik) Burke. Shirley loved her family, especially her grandsons. She was a proud homemaker and enjoyed fishing, crafts, sewing, crocheting, bingo and visiting the casino. Shirley is survived by her beloved husband, Harrison and daughters Carla (Nathan) Hopkins of Hamilton Square, New Jersey and Aimee (William) Cooper of Mercerville, New Jersey; grandsons Nathan (Brenden) Hopkins of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Corey (Luisa) Hopkins of Boca Raton, Florida, along with several nieces and nephews, including special nephews Terry Elzinga, Kenny and Alan Burke, and special niece Jeanne (Elzinga) Dougherty. The family would like to thank the caregivers at The Place on the Hill AFC (Charlevoix) and Villa at the Bay (Petoskey) for their compassionate care during this time. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 21st at 1 p.m. at the Charlevoix Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes with Pastor Paul Bradley officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 Noon until the time of service. Interment will take place at the Atwood Cemetery (Ellsworth).
