Warren James "Jeep" Allison, 86, of Charlevoix, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.
A memorial service was Dec. 9, 2004, at Community Church of God, in Charlevoix, with the Rev. Neil Turner officiating. Interment will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery in Charlevoix.
Warren was born Oct. 10, 1918, in Charlevoix, the son of Frank A. and Mamie (Bremmer) Allison. Jeep graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1938, where he lettered in track, foot- ball and was on the 1936 basket- ball team that went to the state finals.
He married Phyllis Stevens in Charlevoix on Nov. 27, 1942. Be fore entering the Army in 1943, he was employed by the Foster Boat Company. While in the Army he was in command of a 56 foot LCM (Landing Craft Mechanized) in the South Pacific 544th Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment. He was stationed at several places in New Guinea and took his barge on a 1000-mile trip past Japanese held shores. He also took part in two major operations, Morotai in the Netherlands East Indies and Lingayen Gulf of Luzon for which he received a commendation from the brigade. Jeep worked for Freedman Artcraft in Charlevoix for 32 years retiring in 1980. He was an avid fisherman, bowler and golfer, and his love for wood- working is a legend. Refinishing furniture, caning chairs and building model boats were his favorite pastimes. And we can't forget his afternoon coffee at Mc- Donalds.
Warren is survived by Phyllis, his wife of 62 years; twins Gail Baldridge and Clyde "Chip" (Nancy) Allison; grandchildren Allison Baldridge, Jodi (Greg) Shepard, Traci (Chris) Mailloux: great-grandchild Lauren Shepard all of Charlevoix; sister Jessie Schultz of Brooksville, Fla.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Charlevoix Community Church of God in lieu of flowers. Arrangements by the Winchester Funeral Home of Charlevoix.
