About Joseph Factor was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on 22 June, 1912, the first child of Max Factor and Bessie Kramer. After his mother's untimely death in 1926 at the age of 37, the family moved to Detroit, Michigan to live with Bessie's sister's family, Anna Kramer Zelickson, when Joseph was 13 years old, his sister Sylvia Factor was eleven, and his brother Sidney Factor was seven. After high school, Joseph worked as a clerk, and in March 1941- 1945 served in the Army as a Staff Sergeant, medic, at Eglin Army/Air Force base in Pensacola Florida, receiving a Good Conduct Medal in 1943. On Sept. 24, 1942 he married Arleen Ann Siegel of Cleveland, Ohio, a daughter of Abe and Esther Siegel. Two children were born to them in Florida, Barbara Factor on 25 Aug. 1943, and William Alan Factor on 9 May 1945. After the war, the family located to Los Angeles, where a second son, Robert Michael Factor was born 20 Oct. 1948, who passed away of cystic fibrosis in 1956. Joseph was employed by Interstate Restaurant Supply Company as an accountant/manager of Thritymix, a subsidiary of Interstate, until his untimely death in 1968 due to a heart attack, at the age of 56. Joseph was a wonderful son, brother, husband and father and grandfather. His gentle nature and kindness endeared him to all who met him.
