About David Cecil, age 70 of Laingsburg, passed away on Monday March 2, 2015 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. Funeral services will be held at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Laingsburg on Friday, March 6, 2015 at 11:00 AM. Rev. Steven Wood will officiate with burial to follow at Laingsburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Watkins Brothers Funeral Home in Laingsburg on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.

David was born in Oneida, TN on November 25, 1944, the son of John R. and Alma Jo (King) Cecil. He graduated from Haslett High School and on January 2, 1965 he married Linda Kay Gessner in Lansing, MI. Since 1978 they have made their home in Laingsburg where David was very active in Laingsburg Sports. He was an assistant coach for the football team, varsity coach for the girls softball team, varsity baseball coach, past president of the Lansing Softball Advisory Board, played and managed in Lansing for 31 years in the men's fast pitch softball league, member of the Michigan High School Football Coach's Association, and a member of the Local UAW 652. David, along with the 1961 Haslett football team will be inducted into the Lansing Sports Hall of Fame in July. He worked for General Motors in Lansing where he retired from in 1995. For the union he was active in community service for 10 years. Working with the youth through the years allowed him to touch many lives and gave his great satisfaction.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda; his children: Kimberly (John) DeBrabander of Laingsburg, and Jon (Bridget) Cecil of Laingsburg; 10 grandchildren: Joshua and Nicole, Zack, Rachel, Jakob, Jon, Thomas, Bryce, Sean, Victoria, and Christopher; brothers John Cecil of Knoxville, TN, Donald (Tammy) Cecil of Lansing; sister Krista (Robert) Johnson of Marion, IN; brothers Rick (Lydia) Cecil of Haslett, John Michael (Jeannie) Cecil of Hartland, Mark Cecil of Knoxville, TN. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Karen Meisner.
