Nelson E. "Bud" Johnson, a 25-year teacher and coach with the Oscoda school system, died at his home Sunday, January 24, 1993 after a lingering illness. He was 62.
Born in Hale, Mich. May 21, 1930, he graduated from Hale High School and served with the U. S. Army in Japan during the Korean Conflict.
He attended Alma College and Central Michigan University, earned his degree in education and accepted a position with the Hale school system in 1956.
He came to Oscoda in 1967, teaching English, a subject he retained until retiring in 1992.
In addition to his teaching duties he, at various times, coached baseball, basketball and football and was a sponsor of the Keyettes, a service club for girls.
He was a member of the National Education Association and Oscoda Yacht Club, serving on the board of the latter organinzation at one time.
He and the former Joyce Tourangeau, who survives, were married August 5, 1967 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Tawas City, Mich.
Also surviving are daughters, Mrs. Jennifer (Matt) Pawloski of Redford, Mich. and Stephanie, a student at Central Michigan University; a son, Brent of Oscoda; a granddaughter, Justine; and a sister, Laura Moshier of Grayling, Mich.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Alice (Mrs. William) Wereley of Hale.
Services were Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oscoda, Fr. I. J. Mikulski officiating. Burial followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Hale.
