About | Robert D. Hodges, age 83, of Oscoda died on Monday, December 25, 2017. He was born in sault Ste. Marie, Mich. on march 15, 1934 to the late Gordon and Margaret (Doherty) Hodges. Bob moved to Mt. Pleasant, Mich. to complete high school before attending college. He initially went o Lake Superior State University on a basketball scholarship before transferring to Central Michigan University. Bob earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in education from CMU. After graduation he moved to Oscoda, Mich. where he began teaching fourth grade in January of 1959. he later became a teaching principal of County Line School, principal of Cedar Lake School, assistant superintendent, and finally served as Oscoda Area Schools superintendent from 1974 until he retired in 1991. Bob also coached basketball at OHS over the years and was honored with the development of the Robert D. Hodges Sports Complex. He was a member of the Oscoda Rotary Club, Oscoda AuSable chamber of commerce, Wurtsmith Development commission, Iosco Transit Corporation, Oscoda Area Jaycees, Oscoda AuSable Senior center and he was a longtime bank director of Huron community Bank. Bob is survived by his wife, Sheila (Arnold) Hodges, whom he married on Sept. 4, 1954 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant, Mich. He is also survived by his two daughters, Sandra K. Hodges of Flint, Mich. and Jennifer (Tim) Ratowski of Oscoda; sister, Audrey Lett of Kansas; granddaughter, Megan (Brad) Hasse; and four great grandchildren, Mason, Garrett, Declan and Emilee. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by two brothers, Gordon and Edward Hodges; sister, Jean Heatherington; and grandson, Robert McKerring. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 29 at 11 a.m. at sacred heart Catholic Church in Oscoda with Rev. Charles Donajkowski officiating. |
