About | From Kalamazoo Gazette Obituary: Hodgin, Dwight Owen of Kalamazoo Passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2002 after a lengthy illness. Dwight was bron on September 27, 1946 in Richmond, IN to Eveerett and Ellabell Hodgin. He graduated from Richmond High School in 1965, earning All State Football honors. Dwight went on to play football for Ball State University, Muncie, IN, where he had an outstanding career and was named captain of the team. He watught at Jones Jr. High School in Marion, IN for two years and one year ta Marion High School where he coached football and wrestling. Dwight and his wife, Pam came to Kalamaz0o in November of 1973. He began a career of lifelong work with students at West Middle School while coaching football and wrestling at Portage Northern High School. Dwight moved to Portage Central High School and started the Student Assistance Program, where he listened to and helped countless young people while he was teaching. His life is lovingly remembered by his family, his wife Pam (Dunwoody); his devoted children, Allyson and Cole, his mother and father, Everett and Ellabell of Richmond, IN; his brother Duane (Sandi) Hodgin of Indianapolis, IN; his niece Annemarie (Adam) WIlliams and Emma of Indianapolis, IN; his nephew Seve (Erin) Hodgin of Indianapolis, IN; his father in law, Pete (Mary) Dunwoody of Marion, IN; two sisters in law, Sharon )Seve Glass) Dunwoody of Madison, WI and Lynn (Jim) Mawell; his nephew Tyler and niece Zoe of Winterhaven, FL. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-9pm at the Betzler Funeral Homes where a memorial service will be held Friday at 11am, Pastor Doug Vernon of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Follwoing the service, food and fellowship will be shared at the familys home. Memmorial contributions may be amde to Portage Education Foundation or LoyNorrix Booster Club.
