About | Joel Robert Thatcher, age 47, of Gowen, formerly of Grand Rapids, took the hand of Jesus and walked into heaven on Thursday, August 3, 2023, from his home. The son of Judy Landstra-Sakkers & Phil Sakkers, and James Thatcher, Joel was born on February 28, 1976, in Grand Rapids and was a graduate of Rockford High School. Joel, a cherished soul who owned and flourished in his own painting business, Absolute Distinction, has left us with a tapestry of memories that will forever remain vibrant. He was a dedicated father to his beloved son Christian, illuminating their lives with unwavering love and guidance. Joel's heart knew no bounds when it came to his cherished canine companion, Logo, his ever-faithful furry friend who mirrored his zest for life. An adventurer at heart, Joel's spirit found solace in the embrace of nature, as he reveled in the beauty of the great outdoors. With a heartwarming sense of humor, he effortlessly wove laughter into the fabric of every interaction, leaving a trail of smiles in his wake. His personable nature and quick wit endeared him to all fortunate enough to cross his path. In the canvas of his life, family held the most vibrant hues. Joel's love for his kin knew no measure, as he navigated life's journey with them by his side. His zest for life, an infectious zeal that was unmistakable, left an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of knowing him. As we bid farewell to Joel, we find solace in the precious memories he gifted us. His legacy will forever remind us to embrace life's adventures, to cherish our loved ones, and to paint our own stories with vibrant strokes of love and laughter. Surviving are his son, Christian Robert James Thatcher of Rockford; one granddaughter, Fallon Thatcher; his parents, Judy Landstra-Sakkers & Phil Sakkers of Rockford and James Thatcher & Diane Williams of Muskegon; his sister, Amanda & Jon Hauser of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; three brothers, James & Rachelle Thatcher of Grand Rapids, Matt & Renee Thatcher of Grand Haven, and Mark and Andrea Thatcher of Harrison Township; his best furry friend, Logo; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Events | Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Wood Brook Cathedral, 1739 Providence Street N.E., Grand Rapids (Plainfield Township). The Rev. J.B. Stutts will officiate and a time of food and fellowship will immediately follow the ceremony.
