He was born on July 4, 1917, in Fairfield Twp., Mich., the son of Nelson and Viola (McLaughlin) Smith. On July 30, 1938, in Seward, Ohio, he married Helen Craig and she survives. Harold was a life-long Morenci-area resident where he was a member of the Morenci United Methodist Church. He graduated from Sand Creek High School, class of 1937. Harold was a farmer and retired from Emmons Dairy Farm near Morenci. Besides his wife, Helen, Harold is survived by a daughter, Rose Marie Banks of Dundee, Mich.; four sons, James (Lois) Smith of Wauseon, Ohio, Forrest (Faye) Smith of Wauseon, Ohio, Thomas Smith of Las Cruces, N.M., and Harold Jr. (Kathy) Smith of Liberty Center, Ohio; 21 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David; two grandsons; two sisters; two brothers; and daughter-in-law, Sharon (King) Smith. Funeral service will be Saturday, May 30, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Morenci United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Burstall officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci. There will be a visitation on Friday at the Eagle Funeral-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci from 2 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Morenci United Methodist Church or to a charity of donor’s choice. |
