About SAND CREEK – Ivan Samuel Detwiler, age 86 of Jackson, formerly of Sand Creek went home to be with the Lord, April 13, 2009, at the home of his daughter. He was born March 13, 1923, in Macon Twp., to Samuel W. and Iva (Hatt) Detwiler. He graduated from Sand Creek High School in 1941. He had been a resident of Lenawee County, mostly of Fairfield Twp., for most of his lifetime, more recently he spent his winters in Lakeland, FL. He married Doris Patterson on January 17, 1941, in Defiance, OH. She preceded him in death on March 31, 1990. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry, 77th Division, during WWII, in the South Pacific Theater. He had been awarded the South Pacific Ribbon, the Infantry Combat Badge, the Good Conduct Ribbon, and the South Pacific Liberation Ribbon with One Star. He retired from American Chain and Cable in 1973, after 32 years as a foreman. He also retired from Goodwill LARC as the director of operations after 13 years, in 1986. Mr. Detwiler formerly attended the Bethany Assembly of God Church and currently attended Grace Church in Jackson; was a member of A.A.R.P., the D.A.V. Chapter #20, the Morenci American Legion, the Annis-Fint VFW Post #1584, the Jolly 60’s West, and the 50 Plus Club at Bethany. He is survived by a dear friend, Arleta Litteral of Jackson; a son, Charles I. Detwiler and his wife, Denise of Polk City, FL; 4 daughters, Patricia Adkins and her husband, Clifford of Tecumseh, Barbara Leik, Kathryn Giles and her husband, Larry and Debra Petticrew, all of Adrian; 22 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Doris, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy; a son in infancy; his parents; a sister, Ethel; two brothers, Harold and Clair; a granddaughter, Kristina Giles; a great-granddaughter, Amanda at birth; a great-grandson, Larry Lance; and a son-in-law, Roger Leik.

Funeral services for Ivan will be held on Friday, April 17, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bethany Assembly of God with Reverend Mike Lee and Reverend Richard Clay officiating. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Blissfield V.F.W. Post #10912. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and also on Thursday from 2-8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Mission or Hospice of Lenawee. Envelopes are available at the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian.
