SAND CREEK — Pearl L. Emmons, 93, of Sand Creek passed to her reward in Heaven on Sept. 22, 2007, at Lynwood Manor in Adrian.
Pearl was born Nov. 7, 1913, in Weston, Mich., to the late Nelson E. and Viola Pearl (McLauchlin) Smith. On June 16, 1933, Pearl married Carl Emmons in Weston, Mich. Carl, her husband of more than 69 years, preceded her in death in 2002.
Pearl was the Salutatorian of the Sand Creek High School Class of 1931. She was a member of the Weston Baptist Church and the Ladies Missionary Guild. Pearl will always be remembered by her family as a devoted and caring, wife, mother and grandmother. She was also known for baking cookies and making quilts for family and friends. Over the years, Pearl made hundreds of hats for the Child Evangelism Fellowship.
Six children were born to Carl and Pearl. Donald (Joan) Emmons of Sand Creek, Richard (Mary) Emmons of Adrian, Mary Helen (Hershel) Love of Sand Creek, John (Cheri) Emmons of Adrian, Janet (Douglas) Bennett of Dunbar, Wisc., and Norman (Gloria) Emmons of Sand Creek. Twenty grandchildren were the joy of her life, Janis, Judy, Curtis, Lynne, Sue, Jeanie, Ann, Howard, Fred, Kay, Karen, Warren, Kathy, Aaron, Jim, Jill, Wendy, Julie, Mark and Joy. Thirty-three great-grandchildren brought more pleasure to Pearl’s life, Christopher, Liena, Amanda, Michael, Jeremy, Katie, Joel, Justin, Shawne, Rebekah, Branden, Shawn, Jeffery, Ryan, Corey, Darcy, Travis, Stacie, Troy, Rachael, Joshua, Isabella, Aiden, Jack, Tori, Jamie, Haley, Andrew, Katie, Alden, Harrison, Anthony and Anna. Also surviving is a brother, Harold (Helen) Smith of Wauseon, Ohio, and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Carl, she was preceded in death by a brother, Evart Smith; a sister, Katherine Frank; and another brother, Forrest Smith in infancy.
Funeral services for Pearl will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, at the Wagley Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Farison and Pastor Dan Maguire officiating. Burial will follow at Sand Creek Cemetery. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
