About | ADRIAN: Roy L. Dickens, age 78, of Adrian, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital at 1:51 p.m. He was born July 25, 1922, in Adrian, to Roy and Thelma Doris Marie (Abbott) Dickens. Roy graduated from Jackson High School in 1942, and on April 4, 1959, he married Marian L. Jones in Jasper. She preceded him in death in 1996. Roy served in the United States Army in the South Pacific during World War II. He was employed as an electrician at American Chain and Cable, retiring in 1983 after 29 years of employment. He worked part-time at his daughter's store, Made for Ewe, in Blissfield. Roy attended Sand Creek Community Church, was a recent member of VFW Post #10912 in Blissfield, and also served as a Friendly Visitor for the Lenawee County Department on Aging. In recent years Roy traveled throughout the United States by train and most family vacations involved a railroad excursion. Surviving Roy is a son, Brion Dickens and his wife, Kathy, and their two children, Chelsea and Aubrey of Pigeon, Mich.; two daughters, Laurie Dickens of Lansing and Kileen Mohr and her husband, Harold, of Blissfield, and their children, Dodd Mohr and his wife, Lora, and their son, Albert Mohr, of Barrington, Ill., and Alysa Mohr of Ypsilanti; a sister, Jean Cook and her husband, Phil, of Prescott, Ariz.; a nephew, Scott Cook and his wife, Julie, and their five children of Boise, Idaho; a niece, Linda Cook of Boise, Idaho; six sisters-in-law and their spouses, and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Roy in death was his wife, his parents, a sister, Jane Riley, two brothers-in-law, one nephew and one great-grandson. Funeral services for Roy will be held Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Gordon of Sand Creek Community Church officiating. Interment will be in Sand Creek Cemetery. Visitation hours will be on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Sand Creek Community Church Missions, Lenawee County Historical Society or Hospice of Lenawee. Envelopes are available at Anderson Funeral Home. |
