About | Edgar L. “Stub” Covell Back to Top SAND CREEK — Edgar L. “Stub” Covell, age 84, of Sand Creek, died Saturday, August 19, 2006, at his home. He was born January 29, 1922, in Toledo, Ohio, to Walter J. and Olive E. (Porter) Covell. He graduated from Sand Creek High School in 1939. He enlisted in the Navy Air Corps in 1942, and was an air craft pilot during World War II. On June 26, 1945, he married Vera Wicka in Seattle, Wash. She survives. Edgar had been employed by Kewaunee Manufacturing for 32 years as an industrial engineer, retiring in 1987, and also farmed the land that belonged to his family. He belonged to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Adrian, the Knights of Columbus, the Adrian Moose and American Legion, and the Elks in Wauseon, Ohio. He was also very active with the Meals on Wheels program for over 20 years, and was the bingo caller at the Lenawee Medical Care Facility. He was very active in the Sand Creek schools. He was an avid fan of all sports and attended many athletic events. While the girls were in high school, he coached a traveling softball team. He also ran the concession stand for a number of years. In addition to his wife, Vera, he is survived by three daughters, Darlene Covell of Willis, Mich., Diane Baker and her husband, Donald, of Onsted, and Linda Cirner and her husband, Dan, of Chelsea; six grandchildren, Lisa Lambright, Charlee (Kris) Kern, Donny Baker, Rich (Erin) Dunahoo, Jason (Myra) Dunahoo, and Heather Cirner; he is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Drake, Hannah, Zach, Emelia, Ethan, and Elle, with #7 due in October. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Leora Hart. Visitation for Edgar will be held today from 5 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian, where a Vigil Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Visitation will also be held on Tuesday morning from 9 a.m. until time of funeral liturgy at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father David Hudgins as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the V.F.W. Annis-Fint Post #1584. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Hospice of Lenawee. Envelopes are available at the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian. |
