About READING — Viola E. Weaver, 94, a long-time Reading resident, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007, at Covenant Care Home, Reading.

She was born March 13, 1913, in Wauseon, Ohio, to Ralph D. and Emma M. (Phillips) Bates. Following graduation in 1931 from Chesterfield, Ohio, High School, she graduated from Bowling Green University in 1935 and earned her Master’s Degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1967. Mrs.. Weaver taught school for 23 years at Chesterfield, Sand Creek, Pittsford and Reading Schools. She was a 60-year member of the Reading United Methodist Church and also belonged to the Wednesday Club of Reading. She was a former member of Delta Kappa Gamma of Hillsdale and the Order of Eastern Star.

On June 12, 1938, she married Carl Weaver and he preceded her in death in 2001. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs.. Woody (Carolyn Mason) Dietrich and Mrs.. Gale (Dianne) Netcher, both of Reading; one son, C. Wayne (Tara) Weaver of Grand Ledge; her twin sister, Leota Isley of Blissfield; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Bates of Trenton; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Walter Bates; son-in-law, James Mason; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, at the Reading United Methodist Church with Pastor Nancy Powers officiating. Visitation is scheduled Friday, Sept. 28, 2007, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the Weaver residence, 309 Michigan St., Reading.

Memorials are suggested to the Reading United Methodist Church, Reading Rotary Club, or CHC Home Health & Hospice. Arrangements were handled by George White Funeral Home, Reading.
