Joy F. Janning, 60, of Austin, Minn., died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2014, at her home. Joy Fredricka was born March 2, 1953, to Floyd and Arline (Mehlhaff) Fuhrman in Austin. Joy was a 1971 graduate of Austin High School. She was united in marriage on July 31, 1971, to Michael Janning at Grace Lutheran Church in Austin. Joy and Mike resided in Albert Lea, Minn., and later Clarks Grove. Minn., before returning to Austin in 1977. In the late 1980s, Joy enrolled in Austin Community College, earning her cosmetology certification. For nine years Joy was employed with Cost Cutters in Austin. She then owned and operated her own salon out of her home for many years. In addition to her salon business, Joy put in 20 years with Hormel, retiring in 2012. She was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in Austin. Joy enjoyed her many travels with her sisters, and treasured her time spent with her grandchildren. Survivors include her sons, Eric Janning (Jodie Reese), of Austin; Dustin (Ashley) Janning, of Mason City, Iowa; sisters, Laurie Steward, of Warsaw, Minn.; Penny (Ron) Mayzlik, of Austin; brother, Thomas Fuhrman, of Hayward, Minn.; grandchildren, Tamika, Dakota, Ethan and Emmett; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Paul (Brenda) Janning, of Jackson; Marie (Steve) Loverink, of Medford, Minn.; Tina Janning Sherman, of Montana; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mike, in August of 2013; infant daughter, Liz. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at 6 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Austin with Rev. Jeff Forbes, officiating. Joy’s family will greet friends on Thursday afternoon from 3 to 6 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Austin, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
