Michael Bobb Cummins Obituary

Graduation Year Class of 1970
Date of Passing Jan 22, 2019
About Michael Bobb Cummins, 66, of Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019, surrounded by his loving family at Health Park – Hope Hospice – Fort Myers.
Mike was born on Feb. 11, 1952, in Austin to Bobb Duffy Cummins and Marjorie Shaw Cummins. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Bobb Duffy Cummins, and his mother, Marjorie Shaw Cummins, also of Austin, Minnesota.
Mike and Shelley were married on April 22, 1976, in Austin, and were again re-married in Fort Myers in 2012 – a grand total of 39 years. Mike’s incredible grandchildren include Thomas and Megan (Molly and Greg), Ava and Brooklyn (Tate and Kris), Lincoln, Lucia and Londyn (Jenna and Adam).
Mike joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1972 and served for eight years, reaching the rank of sergeant as an intelligence specialist. Mike served on several overseas assignments, including Tunis, Tunisia, and Tel Aviv, Israel, which is where he met his wife, Shelley. He and Shelley have kept in touch with some of their Marine Corp friends that he served with while in Tel Aviv. Semper Fi.
After Mike’s honorable discharge from the Marine Corps in 1979, he held positions at some amazing companies, including Vista International Packaging, Inc., TW Kutter, Inc., and Packaging Concepts & Materials. He retired on June 1, 2018, as National Accounts Manager at Kalle, USA, where he had worked for 15 years.
Mike was an avid golfer, an excellent pool shark, and an exceptional bowler (he achieved one perfect game, a 300). His true love, however, was, of course, baseball. As either a player, as a Legion coach, or as a fan in the stands watching his son, son-in-law or grandson play, the game of baseball was his true passion. Michael graduated from Austin High School in 1970 and signed as a left-handed pitcher with the Minnesota Twins (Sarasota, Florida). In Fort Myers, he loved to follow the local news to see how the ball players at Canterbury School were doing.
Michael is survived by his wife, Shelley T. Cummins (Williams); son, Tate J. Cummins (Kris); daughters, Jenna M. Hoffman (Adam) and Molly F. Schnagl (Greg); and his beloved sisters, Dianne Shaw-Cummins, Pam Letourneau (Jack), Patti Christensen, Lindy Rider (Al) and Cindy Jewison (Greg). Michael deeply loved each and every one of his amazing nieces, nephews and cousins.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Bobb Duffy Cummins and Marjorie Shaw Cummins, of Austin.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, 2019, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin. A greeting area to welcome friends and family will begin one hour before the service on Friday at the church. After the service concludes, please join us for a celebration of Mike’s life at approximately 3 p.m. at the Eagles Club in Austin.
