Graduation Year Class of 1970
Date of Passing Nov 02, 2014
About Michael B. DeMars, 62, quietly passed away at his home in Port Ludlow, Washington, on Sunday, Nov. 2. The cause of death was complications from heart disease and diabetes. Born Jan. 16, 1952, in Litchfield, Minnesota, Michael was raised in Austin, Minnesota, where he graduated from Austin High School in 1970. He went on to earn an Associate Degree in Offset Printing at Austin Area Vocational Technical Institute (AAVTI) and a degree in motorcycle mechanics at the American Motorcycle Institute (AMI) specializing in Harley Davidson. He owned his own plumbing business, worked as a journeymen plumber with Local 32 and was an alternative energy specialist until retiring in 2011. Michael was a gardening enthusiast, avid Harley rider (hence the nickname—” Miker the Biker”) and a lover of many music genres.
Michael was preceded in death by his daughter, Shawna DeMars-Lampman (age 4); brother Tony DeMars; and parents Russell R. DeMars and Ferne A. Byram.
Michael is survived by his brother, Patrick DeMars (Dee) of Port Hadlock Washington; sisters: Toy Campbell of Juneau, Alaska, and Susan Ogden (Gary) of Gustavus, Alaska; and numerous nephews, nieces; family; and friends.
Michael’s life will be honored at a celebration of life and music festival to be held in early summer of 2015 in Port Hadlock, Washington.
“Some may come and some may go—we shall surely pass. When the one that left us here—Returns for us at last. We are but a moment’s sunlight—Fading in the grass. C’mon people now—smile on your brother—Everybody get together—try to love one another right now.” —Lyrics to the song, “Get Together,” by The Youngbloods. Miker the Biker—Rest in peace. We will miss you more than words can say.
