About | Steven Lynn Stern, age 50, of Austin, died Wednesday morning, April 23, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. He was born Aug. 10 1952, in Austin, the son of Roland and Dorothy (Sukow) Stern. He attended school in Austin, graduating from Austin High School in 1970. After graduation, he attended community college before entering the United States Navy on Feb. 27, 1972. He served aboard the USS Sylvania in the Great Lakes and out of Norfolk, Va. He was discharged Feb. 15, 1978, and returned to Minnesota where he worked at the Blooming Prairie Golf Course, Northstar Supper Club and for Don Watts as a cook. In 1980, he moved to Willmar, Minn. where he worked at the Country Kitchen. While working in Willmar, Steven met his wife, Patricia Nelson and they were married on March 27, 1982, in Willmar. They made their home in Willmar until 1984, when they moved to Austin. While living in Austin, Steven worked at Hormel Foods until 1996. From 1996 to 2002, he worked at the Austin Herald in the mailroom. From 2002 until his death he was employed at the Holiday Inn as a cook. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Stern of Austin; three children, James H. Johnson of Athens, Ohio, Shawn P. Johnson of Austin and Stephany (Keith) Oldenkamp of Austin; two grandchildren, Anthony Rosett of Owatonna and Nicholas Johnson of Austin; his mother, Dorothy Stern of Austin; two brothers, Wayne H. Stern and Dennis L. Stern, both of Colorado Springs, Colo.; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. His father Roland Stern and his grandparents preceded him in death. |
