About | My Uncle Jim was tickled pink to jump into Normandy with his band of brothers on D Day June 6, 1944. He fought with the 82nd Airborne as a PFC in the 507th Regiment Company A. The 507th was the last Regiment to drop that night. They faced chaos and carnge in the air and on the ground. The 82nd Airborne battled the nazi evil at Normandy for over 30 harrowing days and nights. This was the 507th first battle of WW2 and the losses were heart breaking. Jim's Regiment of 2004 men was cut in half by the time they returned to Nottingham England. Jim's mortar squad did a fine job killing the nazzi enemy and protecting their brothers back. This Lumberjack never made it home to Bemidji. He died June 21, 1944. The family decided to leave his body at that great American Cemetary in Normandy France. Hey, if any of you Lumberjcks are ever there please ask for this PFC by name and you will be directly taken to the site. He would be tickled pink. |
