About | Christine Stimac Obituary Christine K (Smith) Stimac, passed away December 24, 2023, after a 6+ year battle with metastatic breast cancer. Christy was born, January 3, 1970, to proud parents Gary and Cathy Smith, in St. Paul Minnesota. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. at Grandview Lodge (Norway Center) in Nisswa. The visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. and a time for fellowship and refreshments will be held after the service. The Smith’s moved to Brainerd in 1971 and Christy graduated from Brainerd High School, Class of 1988. Christy loved growing up in Brainerd and was a PROUD Warrior Alumni! Christy worked for her parent’s business managing and operating the Tom Thumb store on 6th St., North East Tom Thumb store, Market Square, Snow White Laundry and Car Wash, and Mr. Tubbs laundry. Christy loved being on the lake, gardening, and skiing in the mountains. She truly loved the beauty that Nature had to offer. Spring was her favorite time of year as she had a magical touch with flowers and the beautiful landscaping around our home on Rice Lake. Christy also loved to shop and was very excited when TJ Maxx and Homegoods finally arrived in Brainerd. Christy loved to ice skate and joined the Vacationland Figure Skating Club in its inaugural season when she was 5 years old in 1975. Christy coached from 1994-2006 and was the head pro of the annual ice show for 11 seasons. She had a special connection with the kids and truly enjoyed the friendships she made during her 20+ years with the Club. Christy married David Stimac at Grand View Lodge on June 10, 2006. She quickly jumped into being a military spouse and enjoyed the many different assignments/adventures to Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, SD; Holloman AFB in Alamogordo, NM; Hanscom AFB near Boston, MA; Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, AK; and finally, the Pentagon in Washington D.C. The Stimac’s retired from the Air Force and returned home to Brainerd, August 2017. Christy cherished her family and was an AMAZING wife and mother to Annabelle and Jonathon. She loved being a stay-at-home Mom and treasured every minute she had with her family. Annie and Jon are a true reflection of their Mom. Christy also loved volunteering at Garfield Elementary and Forestview Middle Schools and was a very PROUD Hockey Mom! Christy was smart, kind, thoughtful, and caring…always putting others first! She was the most organized person you could ever meet, always making sure everything was just right. She had an amazing way to make everyone around her feel special and she made everyone around her better! We are going to miss Christy every day of our lives…we are so thankful for the times we shared with her and the many memories we will cherish! One of her favorite quotes was from Dr Seuss, “don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” We were shocked by the sudden change in Christy’s cancer journey…she was an amazing fighter and handled everything her cancer threw at her with unbelievable grace and strength! We are very sad but understand that Christy is at peace and no longer in pain. Christy is survived by her parents, Gary and Cathy Smith; her husband Dave; her children Annabelle and Jonathon; her amazing cousins; her brother-in-law Rick Stimac; her sister-in-law Sheryl Howerton; and many wonderful family and friends. Christy was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Jon Stimac, and her brother-in-law, Dan Howerton. |
