About | Dave Zebe ( March 30, 1963 - September 02, 2013 ) "but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint." Isaiah 40:31 If ever there was a verse that described a man this verse describes Dave Zebe. He was born David Bruce Zebe on March 30, 1963 into the family of George Kurt Zebe and Dorothy Carol Lanphear in North Saint Paul, Minnesota. Dave was a very active young boy, full of energy and zeal for life. He played a number of different sports, but enjoyed tossing the ball with his dad and their many fishing trips the most. He was known for taking things apart to learn how they work. Of course, quite often he would not get them put back together, that was his dad's job. Dave graduated top 5% with honors from North High School in 1981. He headed to Iowa State University to study Computer Engineering. He made wonderful friends, played sports and competed in academic competitions. Upon completing his Bachelor of Science degree he headed to the Big "D" to get away from the snow and try becoming a Texan (he never quite got the Texas drawl down). He started working as an Engineer for Texas Instruments in June 1985. Dave loved being an Engineer! It was at this point he met a young native Texan who would become his best friend and life partner, Susan Nanette Williams. They married April 25, 1987. They would spend hours hiking, playing cards, going to movies and playing tennis. They moved to Plano, Texas in April of 1988. Dave decided to further his education by receiving a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from University of Texas at Dallas. He worked on countless programs, wrote many white papers and worked with some outstanding people. His hard work and dedication was rewarded by receiving the honor of becoming an Engineering Fellow at Raytheon Company. He was highly respected by all he worked with because of his hard work and dedicated work ethic, his integrity and commitment to honesty, and being a problem solver. Outside of work He loved playing golf with friends. In July of 1996, Dave took on the role of a life time and was blessed with his first son, Michael William Zebe. It was at that point that Dave's finest character emerged. He was an incredible daddy! Soon to follow in May of 1998 would be his youngest son, Robert Allen Zebe. Dave's highest priority was his family. When he came home from work, no matter how hard a day he had had, he put on his daddy hat. He loves his two boys deeply. He took it upon himself to put the boys to bed every night, reading stories, praying and singing songs. He spent countless hours playing sports, taking the boys fishing and on "field trips". He attended all but a few of the boys sporting events, their biggest fan. Not sure there is a better dad out there. As a husband, Dave was a good, loving and supportive husband. For many years the Lord had been tugging on Dave's heart to serve. In October of 2011, Dave answered the call by becoming a member of an incredible team of men who travel as short term missionaries to Peru. Their work, take on the role of construction laborers working on various building projects, including building churches, in support of the Anglican Diocese of Peru. This trip transformed Dave's heart and he gained a group of brothers in Christ whom he cherishes. He was passionate about this mission work. There are so many wonderful memories to cherish. On Monday, September 2, 2013, the Lord took Dave's hand and walked him home after a year plus long journey battling Pancreatic Cancer. Our family can count daily blessings. As Dave went home to rest in peace he took a little piece of each of our hearts and left us part of his, all to be reunited when the Lord reunites us and we will be made whole again. Dave was a very giving, servant-hearted man with a willingness and desire to help others. He was an honest man known for his integrity, a man of courage who always persevered. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, September 10th at 10:30 AM at Christ Church Plano located at 4550 Legacy Drive in Plano, Texas, 75024. If desired, the David Zebe Memorial Peru Fund has been established to receive memorial gifts in honor of his passion for the ministry. |
