Graduation Year Class of 1959
Date of Passing Jul 25, 2018
About 1979 Family Photo
Sadly, my brother Ronald Myrom died of cancer, at his home and with his family, on July 25, 2018. Ron was a beloved physician at Palmer Lutheran Hospital (Gunderson Health System & Clinics), West Union, IA. Ron formerly practiced medicine in Orange County, CA, Walla Walla, WA, and Little Falls, MN, before settling in Iowa. Ron and his wife Michele raised three children, now grown and married, and dote on their five grandsons. Ron volunteered and proudly served in the United States Air Force as a physician at Mather Airforce Base in CA. He was a dedicated Christian and credits any success he had to God, and, he always adds, "to the love and patience of my wife, Michele". Ron took interest in community and political affairs and wrote more than 30 editorials published in the Fayette County Union newspaper. He read widely and played bridge regularly. Ron may be most remembered for his ever-present sense of humor and the entertaining stories he liked to tell about his life experiences. He was kind and generous and helped many people in need. Ron was born in Long Prairie MN on September 25, 1941 to Art and Olga Myrom. He is missed by many who knew and loved him.

Final Thoughts

Before he died, Ron wrote the following letter, published in his local newspaper: "Some years ago, my college roommates who were seminary students, suggested that I consider being in the ministry. At the time I thought that my public speaking abilities were limited and I was better suited to being a medical doctor - a Christian medical doctor to be specific. In my 40+ years of practice, I frequently prayed for my patients, especially the very ill persons. I was always grateful that God gave us excellent nurses and other personnel at the hospital and nursing home. I'm sure they said prayers, too. I tried to be a good example to others, especially to my patients and my family. So now, as my career has come to a close, I would like to thank all those kind people for working with me, sharing their cookies in the break room, and for being the excellent people you are. I would also like to thank the many people who have sent me cards and prayers and best wishes in the face of my own medical challenges. God bless you all. I encourage the readers of this note to teach your children the Golden Rule, take them regularly to your house of worship and Sunday School, and teach them that Jesus loves them all.
Your Christian doctor,
Ronald C. Myrom, M.D."
