About | Valedictorian class of 1948 Washington University, (1952) Edward J. Heising; Began life in his parents home (521 W. Washington Ave.) in Kirkwood, Missouri on December 14, 1930. I went from the arms of my God and Savior on October 4, 2010, at our home in Bosque Farms, New Mexico. I am at peace. I join my parents Julius and Louise Heising, sister Mary Brinkman, brothers Richard, Ken, and Robert Heising. I leave behind a sister, Jewel Wagner, of Kirkwood and multiple nieces, nephews, grandchildren and friends. As a boy he knew he would never be able to compete on the football field, but they couldnt catch him in the classroom. Ed was his high school valedictorian. He graduated from Washington University with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1952. Ed was proud of his military service in the U.S. Navy as Electrical Officer of the Special Weapons Unit aboard the aircraft carrier USS Shangri La. The passion of his working life was deep space exploration. His career was spread across the U.S. in New Mexico, Florida, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Arizona, culminating with a decade at the Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena, California, where he designed communication systems for satellites that traveled to the outer planets.
